Langone Gifts $25M to NYU Stern Part-Time MBA Program

WHO IS LANGONE?

Kenneth Langone, an alumni of NYU Stern's 1960 class, and his wife, Elaine, have donated $25 million to expand scholarships for military and veterans in the part-time program. So, if you're a veteran or active-duty member of the military, think about applying to a part-time MBA program in New York City. Because NYU is giving the message that you should apply here.

This prestigious program is named after Kenneth Langone, who contributed $10 million in 1999. He is also a Home Depot co-founder and the founder and CEO of Invemed Associates. He is also a member of Stern's Executive Board. The Stern School revealed the Langones' contribution on January 26th, 2023, describing it as a "testamentary" gift. Meaning, it will be given to Stern as part of Kenneth Langone's will following his death.

“Growing up in a working-class family, I was not only willing to work, but willing to work really hard. I quickly learned the value of a dollar and it changed the course of my life. Now Elaine and I are in a position to pay it forward, to help other bootstrapping young professionals who want to make their mark on the world,” says Langone. According to Forbes, Langone's net worth is $3.3 billion.

WHAT IS THE LANGONE PART-TIME MBA PROGRAM?

The part-time program has experienced a significant transition in the previous year, with the addition of an online option last year. And now, another promise has been fulfilled: increased scholarship opportunities.

The Langone curriculum is adaptable, as students can study their MBA on weeknights, Saturdays, the Accelerated Two-Year Program, or the new Online/Modular Option. Students can complete their electives in the new online option by combining the following: new one-week intensive in-person modules at NYU Stern, a variety of online elective courses, including some of the most popular electives, and existing in-person courses at Stern on weeknights or Saturdays in NYC.

“We specifically designed this option to combine the added convenience and flexibility of some online courses with the ability to easily access NYC for in-person courses,” when the online expansion was announced in fall 2021, JP Eggers, Stern's vice dean of MBA and graduate programs, told Poets&Quants. “We have intentionally set up the option to be a hybrid of online and in-person because we believe that coming to New York City and taking some of the classes on campus is an integral component of the NYU Stern MBA experience.”

WHEN ARE THE FALL 2023 APPLICATION DEADLINES?

The initial application deadline for the Langone program's fall 2023 intake is February 15 2023. The deadlines for the second and third rounds are April 1 and May 15, respectively.
